Delorme PN-40 For The Best in Handheld GPS
The Delorme PN-20 has been widely successful among outdoor enthusiasts as well as drivers and travelers which is why Delorme has come out with another GPS device that will certainly get patrons and potential customers excited. So here comes the Delorme PN-40. Appearance-wise, the only difference you will see between the PN-20 and the PN-40 is the color. Delorme has changed the casing from yellow to a bright orange which is great because you can easily see where the device is in case you drop it in a dark place. It still has those large buttons which are extremely helpful especially when you’re all geared up for an outdoor activity, i.e. thick gloves and such.

Performance
From the outside, it may seem that not much has changed but the Delorme PN-40 has been packed with a lot interesting features that would be very beneficial to drivers, hikers and nature lovers out there. They have made the GPS tracking device a whole lot faster by integrating a dual core processor with each processor dedicated to different tasks (one for the GPS chip and the other one’s for graphics) for faster performance. Hiking or hunting doesn’t really require speed but this feature is perfect for driving so this makes sure you won’t miss a turn.
Delorme has also upgraded the firmware and the chipset, using STMicroelectronics Cartesio which delivers superb performance by instantaneously redrawing the imagery even if you have a lot of maps open. Another great thing with this device is you can watch in amazement how fast and how accurate the display will be as you will seeing the exact position (from your point of view) of the place, area or building that you’re passing through as you walk or drive.
Maps and Topographic Coverage
Aside from the US topographic maps, the DelormePN-40 also has other types of maps available (which you can get by purchasing and annual subscription) such as hi-res aerial photography, NOAA marine charts, satellite imagery and USGS topographic maps. Another plus are the hybrid maps which is an aerial image superimposed on a vector based map so you get twice as much information in one imagery. Map details are so comprehensive it displays U.S. trails, land cover, even boat ramps and hunting spots.
Other Features
The onscreen display is crisp and vivid but if Delorme comes out with another
model I suggest making the screen bigger for better view and wider area coverage. Also, with the DelormePN-40, you don’t have to worry about the glare of the sun or the lack of light, because the device adjusts according to the lighting condition so you will be able to see all details under different conditions. This device is also waterproof so you don’t have to worry about accidentally dropping it in the water especially when kayaking or driving a motor boat.
With all the improved features, you don’t have to think twice about purchasing the Delorme PN-40. The great performance plus the added maps means you won’t have to ask for directions ever again. And when you’re outdoors, you can just focus on the beautiful scenery and never have to worry about getting lost.
